Injury time goal downs Robins
Carshalton Athletic’s playoff hopes suffered a major blow when an added time winner gave Whitehawk a 1-0 win on the blustery South coast.
The defeat was particularly cruel on the Robins as they had dominated chances throughout the game.
Danny Bassett went closest for Carshalton in the first half with a customary cut in and shot. And as the Robins continued to look for the breakthrough in the second half, home goalkeeper Mitch Walker made further saves from Luke Read, Kwaku Frimpong and Joe Bell.
With the game looking like ending goalless, the final cruel twist came with virtually the last kick of the game when substitute Josh Nandhra claimed the winner for the hosts.
The defeat drops the Robins two places to eighth in the Isthmian League Premier Division, still only three points off the playoff places but in a weaker position than they had started the day after Billericay Town and Hastings United both won on the road.
