CAFC Women vs Leatherhead Youth – Match Preview
Carshalton Athletic take on Surrey Premier Division favourites and current toppers Leatherhead Youth on Sunday afternoon at Colston Avenue following a 2-0 defeat to Farnham Town FC.
Robins Review
Aaron Lamont’s side travelled to the Memorial Ground at the weekend and scoreline aside, the Robins put on a spirited display. Lamont deployed the ladies in a lower block and therefore there was a greater emphasis on the defensive side of the game. Second half, Town’s clear-cut chances were few and far between, while the Reds repelled wave after wave of shots and crosses successfully. That said, they could have levelled or at least halved the deficit towards the latter stages of the match, with Ella Bale having a couple of opportunities. Currently, Carshalton sit fourth in the league, level on four points with Sutton United Reserves.
Leatherhead Youth
Leatherhead Youth are the current Surrey Premier Division toppers having taken maximum points from their first five league games (15). That makes the club the only side to boast a perfect record in Tier 7a of the Women’s Football Pyramid. That being said, Farnham Town, who occupy third and languish three points behind the Tanners, have played one match less.
So far, it has been plain sailing for the ladies, and they have comfortably dispatched of whoever has stood in their way. Interestingly, the Epsom and Ewell curtain raiser proved to be their toughest test to date, securing a narrow 2-1 victory over the Salts. Since then, Leatherhead have won by an outstanding deficit of two or more goals, winning 3-0 (vs Sutton), 4-2 (vs Croydon), 4-1 (vs Beecholme Belles), and 5-0 (vs Epsom in the reverse fixture) respectively.
What’s more, despite a magnificent Goal Difference of 14, it still falls two short of Farnham’s 16 and if the start of the 2024-25 campaign is anything to go by, it is shaping up to be one hell of a clash of the Titans between the two sides, which Carshalton can hopefully get involved in.
Likely line-ups
Carshalton Athletic
Solley, Measures, Dady, Williams, Nebbitt, Allen, McCarthy, Edwards©, Throp, Chapman, Dulley

Pre-Match Analysis
Leatherhead are the most free-scoring team in the league, but also one of the hardest to break down and score against, possessing an extremely resilient backline. They have conceded just four this season, thus Carshalton must be ruthless in front of goal when presented with the opportunity, especially if few and far between.
Key Player
No. 8 turned deadly forward Avery Tolley is the Tanners top goal scorer for the 2024-25 season so far. Tolley has netted four times, she scored a brilliant hattrick in the 4-1 win over Beecholme Belles and helped her side to a 4-2 victory against Croydon FC with a cute goal.
