CAFC Women vs Old Tiffinians FC – Preview

Carshalton Athletic Ladies return to action on Sunday when they travel to the Grist Memorial Ground to take Old Tiffinians in the Surrey Premier Division.

Robins Review

Aaron Lamont’s side were supposed to make their return following the Christmas break last week; however, Milford and Witley were unable to field a team and subsequently gifted the Robins a bye into the next round of the League Cup.

It has been a while since our ladies were last in action, December 1st to be precise when Lamont’s side ran out comfortable 5-3 winners over Dorking Wanderers Development; however, the Robins are back and rearing to go when we welcome Old Tiffinians to Colston on Sunday in the Surrey Premier Division.

In competitive competitions, the Reds have not suffered defeat since Haringey Borough in the Isthmian Cup on October 18, and their unbeaten streak in the Surrey Premier Division is even longer. It extends back to Farnham Town at the beginning of the same month, where our ladies lost 2-0.

Currently, in Step 7 of the Women’s Football Pyramid, Lamont’s side languish fourth on 16 points after eight games. They have won five, lost two, and drawn one. More impressively, our ladies boast the second-best goal difference in the division with 17, which is only bettered by runaway leaders Farnham (with 38). Wing-back Abbey Measures tops the goalscoring charts for the Reds so far in the 2024-25 campaign having netted seven times, she is followed closely behind by forward Heather Eade (6) and captain Georgie Edwards (6).

Old Tiffinians

Rock bottom of the Surrey Premier Division on zero points and with a goal difference of -29 after six games, Tiffs will be desperate to put 2024 behind them. OTFC were beaten 4-0 by Dorking Wanderers Development in their 2024-25 curtain raiser before a trio of 3-1 defeats at the hands of Beecholme Belles, Sutton United Reserves, and Croydon respectively. Knocked out of the Capital Women’s Intermediate Cup the following week 5-0 by Epsom & Ewell, Sutton would thump them 7-0 to conclude a rather grim October. Tiffs had conceded 25 goals in just six games, only finding the net themselves on three occasions.

That said, they came agonisingly close to not only progressing through in the Surrey Divisional Cup but also a first win of the season when Hersham defeated the Tiffs 5-3 on penalties. Owing to the fact that the club has their last two fixtures against Beecholme and Leatherhead Youth, Tiffs final game before the Christmas break was one they will want to forget being dispatched 12-0 by runaway league leaders Farnham.
Old Tiffinians were Surrey Division 1 in the 2022-23 and 2023-24 campaigns, earning promotion to the Premier Division.
