CAFC Women vs Old Tiffinians – Match Report
Heather Eade’s double hattrick saw Carshalton Athletic Women thump Old Tiffinians 17-0 on a chilly Sunday afternoon at Colston Avenue.
It was a fast start from Aaron Lamont’s side; Demi-Lee Allen found Kenza Gueriani, who delivered before the ball was cleared only as far as Josie Alderman, striking well wide of the post. Moments later, Georgie Edwards’s miscued dipping half-volley was trapped down superbly on the edge of the penalty area by Honey Dulley, but she failed to test the Old Tiffinians goalkeeper with her effort. Josie Alderman’s tenacity then paid off when the midfielder latched onto a through ball in behind and pulled the ball back to Heather Eade; however, Eade side-footed it first-time straight down the keeper’s throat. That was three chances within the first five minutes for Carshalton.
After more probing, the game opened up briefly as the Reds were sluggish and struggling to maintain possession. That said, the ladies settled into the occasion, and Gueriani whipped a right channel cross to the back post for the onrushing Abbey Measures to send the shot sailing over the bar from close range. Eventually, the Robins took the lead thanks to Eade inside 16 minutes. The ball fell kindly to the feet of the Carshalton striker, who was languishing to the right of the penalty area following a throw-in, successfully finding the far corner.
On the 20-minute mark, Lamont’s side forged a two-goal cushion when Alderman controlled and calmly guided the effort beyond the Tiffs shot-stopper at full stretch and into the roof of the net. Carshalton’s ruthlessness in front of goal continued as Alderman completed her brace to secure the Robins third. Midway through the half, one-on-one Alderman managed to poke the ball beyond the Tiffs shot-stopper and into the back of the net from an extremely tight angle.
From the kick-off, wave after wave of attack ensued with the Reds rattling the post in the process. In the 33rd minute, Carshalton were four goals for the good when the ball came out to Dulley from a corner, and her swivelled right-channel cross was allowed to run to Measures, ricocheting off the rooted wing-back a couple of yards out and into the net. With five minutes until the break, Chapman converted Carshalton’s fifth, scoring directly from a touchline set piece.
On the stroke of half-time, Alderman brought up her hat trick in excellent fashion, acrobatically volleying a right-flank delivery to nestle inside the near post.Â
Lamont’s side carried forward their attacking intent from the first half into the second. The first chance of the half fell the way of the Robins. Kanita Throp, who replaced Edwards at the break, swung in the corner, and it was met by the head of Eade; however, the Tiffs shot-stopper did well to react and push it away. Moments later, Eade issued several warning signs, calling the goalkeeper into action low down to her right after a speculative 20-yard strike, before manoeuvring to the left of the penalty area and driving into the defender.
On the hour, Measures sealed her brace for the Robins seventh of the afternoon after Throp delivered the corner and the defender powered home the header on the six-yard box. Hungry for her hat trick, an alert Measures stole the ball from the Tiffs defender just inside the penalty area and lashed it into the back of the net to take the Reds tally to eight.
A few minutes later, and it was nine; Eade made no mistake one-one-one, finessing the ball out of reach into the far corner. Next minute, Eade had claimed her hat trick, carrying the ball unchallenged towards the visitors goal; the forward flashed an effort beyond the goalkeeper from 25 yards out. Then in the 70th minute, the No. 11 had four to her name, stabbing through the legs of the shot-stopper.Â
Approaching the final third of the match, an Ella Bale brace ensued. On the swivel, the No. 9 whipped the ball inch-perfectly into the top corner before keeping her composure to drift into the centre of the penalty area and side-foot it into the bottom corner.
We netted twice in quick succession, Chapman applying the finish to a Dulley tee-up and Eade converting again one-on-one. If you are losing count at this point, it is 15-0. Towards the latter stages of the 90, the Robins scored from an Eade stray right flank cross, which ensured her double hattrick, and Alderman netted in a similar fashion to her second seeing her strike from the edge of the area hit the roof of the net.
The Robins move up to second in the Surrey Premier Division just behind leaders Farnham following the 17-0 victory. There will be hopes Lamont’s side can carry forward the momentum into the Capital Intermediate Cup against South London First next weekend.
