CAFC vs Farnham Town – Preview
Carshalton Athletic travel to The Memorial Ground to take on Farnham Town in the League Cup on Sunday.
Robins Review
The Robins topped the Surrey Premier Division on Sunday following an emphatic 7-0 victory over Dorking Wanderers Development away at Oakwood Sports Centre. There was a debut brace for Maria Andrade, while Heather Eade and the unlikely Evie Nebbitt also achieved the feat. The result means Lamont’s side overtake Farnham, but Town do boast three games in hand. Subsequently, the ladies must make the most of the back-to-back games against the high-flying outfit, even if the first is in the League Cup.
Farnham Town Women
Despite having played two fewer than the maximum number of games, nine, Farnham Town top the Surrey Premier Division with 21 points and a very impressive goal difference of 38. The club are not only yet to taste defeat but also drop points, winning all seven league matches. The 2024-25 campaign began with consecutive 6-0 hammerings of Farnborough and Croydon, respectively, the former coming in the FA Cup. The Surrey-based team’s free-scoring tendencies remained constant, dispatching Epsom & Ewell 5-1, Sutton United Reserves 4-0, and the Robins 2-0.
In their first five games, Farnham had won 23-1 on aggregate and kept clean sheets in all except for one. Mid-October saw the club’s first real test, an eight-goal FA Cup thriller with Havant & Waterloo, where Town managed to emerge 5-3 winners. Consecutive Surrey Premier victories ensued, thumping Dorking Wanderers Development 4-1 and Beecholme Belles 8-1, before the club were issued their first defeat of the season by London Bees in the FA Cup, the visitors beating them comfortably 2-0. That said, the following week Town bounced back to winning ways, inflicting a 12-0 battering of rock-bottom Old Tiffinians.
Farnham were gifted a bye into the next round of the Capital Intermediate Cup (CIC) in November when Ashmount Leigh declared themselves unavailable. The final result for Town during the festive period was a 7-0 win against Molesey Athletic in the Surrey Premier Division. After six weeks out, the club returned in late January and overcame Woking 3-0 in the CIC, before a goal either side of the break saw Town seal a place in the semi-final of the divisional cup last weekend, beating Beecholme Belles 2-0.

There are three new additions to Lamont’s ranks, the Andrade twins, Maria and Eduarda, who join the Robins on loan from AFC Wimbledon. The trio were included in first-team proceedings Sunday; however, the twins featured in the starting XI.
Farnham Town
Nicole Lews is a new signing for Farnham Town and will likely feature in the starting XI on Saturday, she scored on debut against Woking, poking in from close range after a Foss corner.
Pre-Match Analysis
Unsurprisingly, Farnham top the goalscoring charts in the Surrey Premier Division having netted 67 times so far in the 2024-25 campaign. Also, the club have only conceded six goals in all competitions to date. Therefore, Sunday’s hosts are extremely dangerous going forward as well as difficult to break down.
Key Player
Kaitlin Howard leads the line for Town and is also their captain, Howard has scored 12 goals in the 2024-25 season, more than anyone else at the Surrey-based side. She also contributes in the way of assists, registering 12 to date.
The Gaffer
Martin Wareham has played semi-pro football as high as Step 3 and also comes into the role with experience coaching in the Women’s game, having been Assistant Manager / Head Coach of Badshot Lea Ladies, hence the influx of players from Wareham’s former club over the summer. Badshot applied their trade in the Southern Region Women’s Football League – Step 5 of the Women’s system.
