CAFC Women vs Leatherhead Youth – Preview
Carshalton Athletic travel to River Lane to take on Leatherhead Youth in the Surrey Premier Division on Sunday afternoon.
Robins Review
The Robins made history on Sunday following a convincing 4-0 win over Farnham Town at the Memorial Ground to progress through into the Surrey Divisional Cup Final. Maria Andrade completed a brace, while Kanita Throp and Sarah Chapman also got on the scoresheet. It is a return to league action for the ladies at the weekend with Lamont’s side travelling to Fetcham Grove to take on Leatherhead Youth. The Robins currently languish second in the Surrey Premier Division on 22 points, one behind league toppers Dorking Wanderers.
Leatherhead Youth
Leatherhead Youth currently sit fourth in the Surrey Premier Division, tied on 21 points with Farnham Town. However, their Surrey rivals hold two games in hand, having played only seven matches. The Tanners made an impressive start to the 2024-25 season, topping the league with a perfect record from their first five games (15 points). They were the only team in Tier 7a of the Women’s Football Pyramid to maintain a 100%-win rate at that stage. Their toughest test during this run came against Epsom and Ewell in their season opener, where they narrowly triumphed 2-1. After that, Leatherhead dominated their opponents, winning by two or more goals in each of their next four games: 3-0 against Sutton, 4-2 against Croydon, 4-1 against Beecholme Belles, and 5-0 in the reverse fixture against Epsom.
However, the Robins were the first team to defeat the Tanners, winning 5-0 in mid-October, with Ella Bale scoring twice. Leatherhead quickly responded by securing back-to-back league victories, a 4-1 win over Croydon and a dominant 7-0 thrashing of Sutton United Reserves. Since the return to action in late January, the club’s form has been somewhat inconsistent. They enjoyed high-scoring victories over Richmond & Kew (7-2), Oxted & District (5-0), and Old Tiffinians (12-0), but have since suffered consecutive defeats to Croydon and Dorking Wanderers Development.
