Ambers put dent in playoff hopes

Carshalton Athletic’s playoff hopes suffered a blow after Cheshunt completed a season double over the Robins with a 1-0 victory on Saturday.

The loss, combined with Wingate and Finchley’s last gasp heroics against Billericay, means the Robins’ gap to the playoff spots is now four points having played two games more.

The Robins had their chances in a tight first half against the Ambers but Bunmi Babajide was denied in a one-on-one with home goalkeeper Brian Okonkwo and Luke Read saw his deflected shot come back off the bar. And four minutes before half time, the Robins fell behind when Nathaniel Orafu’s speculative shot found the net.

After the Ambers had had another goal ruled out for offside, the Robins’ closest effort to an equalizer in the second half came from a Danny Bassett shot that grazed the far post.
