CAFC Women vs Milford & Witley – Preview

Our ladies return to action on Sunday in the League Cup against Milford & Witley at Colston Avenue after a prolonged break for Christmas.

Carshalton Athletic

It has been a while since our ladies were last in action, December 1st to be precise when Aaron Lamont’s side ran out comfortable 5-3 winners over Dorking Wanderers Development; however, the Robins are back and rearing to go when we welcome Milford & Witley to Colston on Sunday in the League Cup.

In competitive competitions, the Reds have not suffered defeat since Haringey Borough in the Isthmian Cup on October 18, and their unbeaten streak in the Surrey Premier Division is even longer. It extends back to Farnham Town at the beginning of the same month, where our ladies lost 2-0.

Currently, in Step 7 of the Women’s Football Pyramid, Lamont’s side languish fourth on 16 points after eight games. They have won five, lost two, and drawn one. More impressively, our ladies boast the second-best goal difference in the division with 17, which is only bettered by runaway leaders Farnham (with 38). Wing-back Abbey Measures tops the goalscoring charts for the Reds so far in the 2024-25 campaign having netted seven times, she is followed closely behind by forward Heather Eade (6) and captain Georgie Edwards (6).

Milford & Witley

Milford and Witley Women FC apply their trade in the South East Counties Women’s Football League Surrey Division One South. Milford languish middle of the road in the league in fourth place on 13 points after nine games; that said, they have a game in hand over South Park Reigate in third.

The Farnham-based side lost their curtain raiser 2-1 at the hands of Ash United; however, Milford bounced back to winning ways spectacularly the following week thumping Guilford Saints a staggering 8-1. Oxted & District disrupted their momentum temporarily, beating them 4-2 before a six-goal thriller with Cranleigh which ended 3-3 in mid-October. Milford would then register consecutive league victories, winning 7-1 and 5-0 against South Park and Guilford City respectively.

Ash United got their revenge on the club, dispatching them with relative ease 3-1 before securing a slender 1-0 and 2-1 win over Cranleigh and Guilford respectively, but failing to beat South Park, who edged them 5-3.

Milford were in the Surrey Premier Division last year; however, the club finished eighth on nine points and were subsequently relegated alongside Richmond Park Women’s Development. This came despite the Farnham-based side consolidating themselves in fourth on 24 points in the 2022-23 campaign.

Pre-Match Analysis

Milford’s final match before Christmas saw the side go 1-0 down but go on to win 2-1. It was a tough first 45 where the ladies just could not get in the game, but second half they came out and dominated. Fran Eke played out of position and got herself a goal from a corner, while Emily Corkish secured the victory with about five minutes to go.

Key Player

Forward Rebecca Singleton is joint top of the 2024-25 South East Counties Women’s Football League Surrey Division One South goalscoring charts alongside Oxted & District’s Kayleigh Stenning – the pair have netted 19 times this season.
