CAFC Women vs South London First – Preview

Carshalton Athletic Women travel to take on South London First at The Griffin Sports Ground on Sunday for some County Intermediate Cup action.

Robins Review

The Robins moved up to second after an emphatic 17-0 hammering of Old Tiffinians on Sunday in the Surrey Premier Division. Carshalton striker Heather Eade netted six times, while Abbey Measures and Josie Alderman both completed hattricks and Ella Bale a quick brace after taking to the pitch as a sub towards the latter stages of the second half. There will be hopes that Aaron Lamont’s side can carry forward the momentum garnered into next weekend’s Capital Intermediate Cup tie against South London Firsts.

South London Women

South London Women FC compete in the Greater London Women’s Football League Premier Division. The club sit second on 19 points, level with Tooting Bec and Camden Town; however, they boast two games in hand over the former. Their six wins, one draw, and one loss sees the outfit languish just four points behind leaders Hammersmith, but crucially with a couple of games in hand.

The club’s 2024-25 campaign curtain raiser was a Women’s FA Cup (WFAC) tie against Tonbridge Angels – South London ran out comfortable 4-0 winners. A league victory over Brentford B followed before their momentum was temporarily disrupted by Hammersmith, who inflicted a 3-2 defeat. The WFAC got the ladies back to winning ways when they registered a 3-2 win versus Camden Town and ensued a five-match unbeaten run, dispatching of Luton Town Reserves, Selsey London First, and Islington Borough along the way.

That said, Saltdean United knocked them out of the WFAC 2-1 at the beginning of November. Two weeks later, the club progressed through in the Capital Intermediate Cup, overcoming Dulwich Hamlet Women’s Reserves 3-1.South London won their final three games before the Christmas break 23-2 on aggregate thanks in large part to a staggering 14-0 hammering of Camden and Islington United on December 1st.

In the 2023-24 season, South London First edged AFC Wimbledon Development by the barest of margins to lift the Division 1 South title and seal promotion to the Premier Division. The club finished on 48 points after 18 games, one above runners-up AFC Wimbledon.
