Canvey Island trip ends goalless

Carshalton Athletic recorded a rare clean sheet but couldn’t find the net at the other end as their trip to the Essex coast to face Canvey Island finished goalless on Saturday.

The result, the Robins’ fourth straight draw, dropped them two places to 11th in the Isthmian League Premier Division.

Manager Peter Adeniyi introduced two new faces to the starting line up in Mason Saunders-Henry and Dominic Vose and it was the Robins who had the better chances in the opening period. Home keeper Sam Jackson made the save of the half to keep out a Bunmi Babajide effort.

Chances were more evenly spread in the second half until the Robins came under pressure in the last 10 minutes after Brad Williams was sent off for a second bookable offence. Goalkeeper Aaron Jones twice came to the rescue with fine saves, although the Robins might have nicked the points in the dying minutes when Babajide’s shot was turned on to the post by Jackson.
