Enfield visit… in search or revenge
After two consecutive away draws, Carshalton Athletic return home to Colston Avenue on Saturday 17th February when they entertain Enfield Town for a 3pm kick off.
The Robins can take encouragement from having recorded arguably their most impressive result of the campaign to date with a 3-0 win in the reverse fixture back in late September against a previously undefeated Town, courtesy of second half goals from Mark Marshall, Tommy Bradford and Bunmi Babajide.
Thanks in part to a strong start, Saturday’s visitors have been in the playoff places for the majority of the season. But a poor run of five points from the last 18 has seen them slip out of the top five into sixth place, albeit level on points and with games in hand on Hastings United in fifth. They did however recover from back-to-back losses to promotion rivals Hornchurch and Billericay Town with a fine 3-0 away win at Canvey Island last time out. Marcus Wyllie with two and Sam Youngs were the scorers in that game and each have 20 plus goals to their names this season, putting them among
the league leaders.
With just 12 games of the league season to go, Carshalton’s own hopes of a playoff berth rest on a strong finish, particularly as they have a number of teams with similar promotion ambitions, including Enfield Town, left to play.
The Robins slipped into ninth place in the division after Horsham’s win in midweek, but still remain only four points outside the playoff spots. One area where the Robins will hope for improvement in the latter part of the season is their defensive record, having gone eight games without a clean sheet and having only kept two since that win at Enfield.
