High flying Chats visit Colston Avenue

Carshalton Athletic host second place Chatham Town in the Isthmian League Premier Division on Saturday 2nd March (3pm kick off).

After winning promotion for the second straight year as champions of the Isthmian League South East last season, the Chats have taken to Step 3 like ducks to water. They currently lie second in the league, 10 points clear of third placed Billericay and looking to maintain pressure on Hornchurch for the champions’ automatic promotion place in case of a slip up on the part of the leaders. Sixteen goals scored in their last three games, including a 6-3 demolition of Billericay, in which Kareem Iziaka notched a hatrick, last time out shows their intent and confidence.

The Robins, however, have a generally decent record this season against teams in the upper reaches of the league and they come into the game on a run of just one defeat in the last 11 league games, albeit six of those including the last four, have been draws. The dearth of maximum points in recent weeks has seen the Robins drop to 11th place in the league but still only five points shy of the playoff places with 10 games left to play.

A draw was the outcome of the first game between the two sides on the Kent coast in October, a Jack Evans wonder goal and a late Ashley Nzala equalizer cancelling out Bunmi Babajide’s and Lexus Beeden’s strikes for the Robins.

Saturday’s game may potentially see home Robins’ debuts for former Kingstonian and Margate men respectively Mason Saunders-Henry and Dominic Vose after they started in the 0-0 draw at Canvey Island last weekend. Brad Williams is likely to be unavailable after his red card – the Robins first of the season – in that same game.
