Playoff run continues at Cheshunt

Carshalton Athletic make the trip to the North London/Hertfordshire border when they face Cheshunt on Saturday 23rd March.

After being relegated from the National League South last season, the Ambers have once again been in and around the drop zone for much of the season. However, three wins in four, including two against fellow strugglers Concord Rangers and a 3-2 home win over Folkestone Invicta on Tuesday night, have put eight points of daylight between them and the final relegation spot. A big factor in their recent upturn has been the goals of Nnamdi Nwachuku, five of whose 16 goals for the season have come in the last six games.

For the Robins, every point counts as the contest for the third to fifth end of season playoff spots heats up. After moving up to fifth following the 3-0 win over Margate last weekend, Horsham’s win at Canvey Island in midweek dropped Carshalton to sixth – just outside the playoff places. Luke Read continued his productive run in front of goal against Margate with his seventh of the season while another defender, Charlie Kennett, chipped in with his first for the club to highlight the recent goalscoring threat of the Robins’ back line.

Despite having won the last three and having just one defeat in the last 14 games, the Robins will be wary of the Ambers after the previous meeting at Colston Avenue – during a mid-season slump – ended up in a 4-1 win for the visitors. They can take heart, however, from coming out on top in each of their last two visits to Theobalds Lane dating back to the 2019/20 season.
