Robins labour to third straight draw
Carshalton Athletic and Enfield Town each converted from set pieces in a 1-1 draw at Colston Avenue on Saturday.
The fact that it took set pieces to break the deadlock was no great surprise in a competitive but generally poor game.
The Robins in particular struggled to find any rhythm in the first half and should probably have gone behind when Reece Beckles-Richards fired over for the visitors from eight yards. A Luke Read header from a corner was the closest Carshalton had come during the first period but, in added time, Bunmi Babajide gave them a rather undeserved lead. Mark Marshall’s far post corner pinballed around the Town penalty area before it fell kindly for Babajide to find the bottom corner for his 17th goal of the season.
The Robins started the second half much more brightly and Kwaku Frimpong curled an effort just wide before Town keeper Rhys Forster had to be alert to turn a Babajide snap shot around his near post. And with Carshalton looking the more likely to find the net again, Danny Bassett’s low hard cross just eluded Babajide.
The inability though to find a second goal came back to bite them shortly afterwards when a needlessly conceded corner after the Robins had been on the attack found Town’s leading scorer Marcus Wyllie unmarked at the back post for his 22nd goal of the season. The Robins remain in ninth place in the division, four points shy of the playoff places.
