Robins look to ratchet playoff momentum

Carshalton Athletic take on Cray Wanderers at Colston Avenue on Saturday 3rd February (3pm kick off) looking to extend their six-game unbeaten run.

A tally of 20 points out of the last 27 available has put the Robins back in the playoff mix with just over a third of the season left to play. They currently sit seventh, two places and three points outside the playoff spots and with a potentially advantageous goal difference.

A significant factor in the recent run has been the goalscoring exploits of Bunmi Babajide, whose goal in the excellent 3-1 win at Lewes on Tuesday night was his ninth in the last six games, taking his total for the season to 16. The Lewes game also marked recent signing Ibrahim Olutade’s first goal for the club.

Cray were without a league game in midweek but followed up a comprehensive 3-0 win in the London Senior Cup against Fisher Athletic the previous Wednesday with an important 1-0 league win against promotion chasers Wingate and Finchley last Saturday that eased them further away from the drop zone. They currently sit 17th with 28 points from 25 games.

On target in that win was Gary Lockyer who leads Cray’s scorers with 10 for the season. Former Robin Nyren Clunis has also chipped in with six goals to date and has recently been joined at the club by Tom Beere who left Carshalton last month after an injury plagued first half of the campaign.

For the Robins it’s also a chance to reverse the 1-0 defeat they suffered to Cray in November, the latest in a run of five games without a win against them since a 4-0 home victory in November 2019. Paris Hamilton-Downes was on the scoresheet that day and should be available again on Saturday after suspension.
