Williams’ penalty earns battling point
Carshalton Athletic battled to a 1-1 draw in wet and blustery conditions at Potters Bar Town on Tuesday night.
A Brad Williams penalty in the last five minutes, awarded after Luke Read was upended, gave the Robins a share of the points and kept them in touch with sides vying for playoff places in the final third of the season.
This was the second time Carshalton had made the trip around the M25 in the last month after the previously scheduled weekend fixture was postponed at short notice.
And the weather was doing its best again to make it a tough night as rain teemed down for much of the game in a swirling wind. In keeping with the weather, it was a messy goal that gave the Scholars the lead in the first half, top scorer Brandon Adams forcing the ball home after a goalmouth scramble.
Turning round with the wind on their backs, Carshalton carved out the better chances in the second period and were unfortunate to see home keeper Finn Rushton make a couple of fine saves and a Williams effort come back off the bar.
